February 5th 2008 - Immigration Matters - Chief minister of Anguilla, the Honourable Osbourne Fleming sat down with Lets Talk for the Hour and discussed some pertinent matters pertaining to Immigration.
Minister Fleming talked about the importance for persons to legalize their status on Anguilla, the need for proper housing for immigrants, and the control to be placed on persons from certain countries being allowed residence in Anguilla.
One caller mentioned the abuse by employers who make employees pay for their own work permits. The CM minced no words in saying that that was an illegal act and his office was aware of that practice.
The CM stressed that the bays of Anguilla will be soon monitored to control the flow of immigrants and that no vessels will be allowed into the Island after hours.
Some points mentioned were the treatment of Immigrants, penalties for hiring undocumented workers, the situation of work permit holders wanting to bring their families to Anguilla and the effects of migration economically culturally and socially.
The CM was quite professional in his approach and Valuable information was given out to the public.
